The Adirondack Forty-Sixers

a reprinting of this rare publication
by Brian Hoody and Oxford Attic Publishing

ADK 46-R Brian Hoody is serious about preserving the legends of Adirondack mountain climbing. In his first book for Oxford Attic, he wrote "Notes From Above Treeline", his collection of stories and remembrances of his adventures in the Adirondack high peaks. Now, with the permission of the Adirondack 46ers, Brian Hoody and Oxford Attic Publishing have reprinted the classic 1958 book "The Adirondack 46ers".

There were only 400 copies of this book printed in 1958, and its place among Adirondack publications is legendary.

The 1958 book, charming and innocent, introduces some of the central figures behind the club during their prime. The Hudowalski’s, the Dittmar’s, the Marshall’s and Jim Goodwin to name a few, who have left a lasting impression on not only the club, but the High Peaks region as well. As the club membership continues to swell, it is important to look back at the roots of the 46ers organization, to understand its legacy, and to secure its future.

Other than a brief preface to the original text, this publication has been kept essentially as it was produced in 1958 (the original Roster Listing has been edited to exclude addresses). Since it is a reproduction of a book that is nearly fifty years old, there are a few imperfections in the period photographs but at Oxford Attic we feel it retains the character of an original edition while making it available at a very accessible price. This contemporary soft cover edition is priced at $18.95 plus $2 shipping. Orders are taken directly by the author. While we don’t want to be cheesy and claim "order now, quantities are limited" - that is the truth of the matter. If you are a member of the 46ers or you are an Adirondack enthusiast, we encourage you to order this book as Oxford Attic has agreed to a limited production run.

Thanks to all the support we have received for our fledgling operation. As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.
